SteelSeries was founded as Soft Trading in Denmark in 2001. In the early days, the company manufactured mouse mats like the Icemat and the Steelpad. The latter inspired a name change for the company in 2007. SteelSeries acquired a North American-based manufacturer of gaming peripherals, Ideazon, in 2008, and since then the product range has expanded. SteelSeries now produces a range of high quality gaming peripherals including mice, keyboards, headsets and mousepads. It also offers a range of accessories, such as carrying bags, headset stands and covers. SteelSeries is very engaged in the E-sports community, and many of their products are designed via consulting the professional Dota 2 team ‘Evil Geniuses’.
